Symcor is proud to share that it has been recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2024) for the 14th year in the row. Canada's Greenest Employers is an editorial competition organized by the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. This award highlights Symcor’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its efforts to create a greener workplace. We actively champion a number of company-wide environmental initiatives, that include:
1. Extensive Recycling Program: Symcor supports an in-house recycling program that goes beyond the basics. Employees can recycle non-conventional items such as coffee pods, e-waste, cell phones, batteries, paper towels, and even wood pallets in an effort to reduce reliance on single-use items.
2. Community Volunteering: Symcor employees actively participate in environmental initiatives within their communities. From tree planting at the Toronto Zoo to garbage cleanup in Calgary as part of the annual Pathway and River Clean Up, these employee-led efforts are strongly supported by our senior management team.
3. Commuter Amenities
- Alternative Options for Commuting: Employees can borrow bikes for commuting through a bicycle loan program. Additionally, transit subsidies, electric vehicle (EV) parking, and preferred parking for carpoolers are available.
- Telecommuting and Flexible Work: The company promotes teleconferencing and work-from-home arrangements, further reducing the need for daily commuting.
4. Fostering Connections with a Green Intent
- The Nook: Symcor provides communal spaces called “The Nook,” where employees can drop off used books, movies, and music. It’s a great way to share and recycle items while enjoying something new.
- The Tech Hub Library: This library features technology-related books, encouraging continuous learning and innovation among employees.
5. Building Footprint
- Lighting Upgrades: The company invests in energy-efficient lighting upgrades to reduce its environmental impact.
- Bullfrog Power Offsets: Symcor offsets its energy consumption by supporting Bullfrog Power, a renewable energy provider.
